On 4 May 2018 trademark agency Chiever registered an image of Rembrandt’s world-famous painting The Nightwatch as a trademark in the European Union. So can anyone just register a famous Old Master as a trademark? Or could this be contrary to principles of morality? For now, the trademark enjoys full protection throughout the EU. But let’s wait and see what will happen in 2019.
