US trademark registration
Yuengling has been using ‘Next generation of light beer‘ for the Flight trademark since February 2020. On August 25, 2020, they registered the slogan as a trademark in the U.S. Trademark Registry.
Thief
Yuengling really goes for Inbev: not only did they demand that the brewer immediately stop using “Get ready for the next generation of beer”, but the company also launched an attack via Twitter, where it posted an image of a masked Bud Light thief stealing Flight’s slogan.
Research
Some simple research in the American trademark register combined with market knowledge would of course quickly have revealed Yuengling’s registered slogan. The question then remains why Inbev chose this similar sentence. There is a chance that they will soon have to back down.
